From: Records of Society of Kings Inns (bar of Ireland) HUNGERFORD WINSPEARE CAMPBELL AUGUSTUS (b. 28 Aug 1871) eldest son of Winspeare Toye Hungerford (decd) of Shanakiel House, Co Cork, and Isabella Fishbourne. Called to the Bar; Michaelmas 1906. Served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police before coming to the Bar and enmembered by Garrett Gill. Died 31 Aug 1945. From: Irish Law Times and Solicitors' Journal - Oct 20 1945 Obituary Mr W.C.A. Hungerford Barrister-at-Law We reported briefly on Sept 8 the death on August 31st, of Mr Winspeare C.A. Hungerford Barrister-at-Law. The late Mr Hungerford was educated at Midleton College, Co Cork, and at Bonn University. He spent some years in Canada and the United States of America and had the distinction of serving in the Royal North-West Mounted Police. Returning to Ireland, Mr Hungerford was called to the Bar in 1909 and he soon developed a large practice, particularly in Chancery and Land Commission work, Mr Hungerford was predeceased by his wife (Rose, daughter of Surgeon-General Hungerford) and is survived by a daughter and a son, Colonel W.T. Hungerford, R.A.S.C., I. On the 8th of August 1929, Winspeare Campbell Augustus Hungerford, age 58, Barrister, left the port of Avonmouth on the ship 'Patuca' destined for Kingston, Jamaica. The ship was operated by Elders & Fyffes Ltd and was ultimately bound for Santa Marta, Colombia. There were 38 passengers on board and the ship's tonnage was 3337.34. The ship's Master was G E Martin. HUNGERFORD - On August 31 1945 at 65 Kenilworth Square, Dublin, Winspeare Campbell Augustus, Barrister-at-Law, eldest son of the late Winspeare Toye Hungerford of Shankiel House, Cork, aged 74 years. Funeral private. Winspeare Campbell Augustus' grandaughter Dilys found him a bit scary as a child! He and Frances (always known as Rose) were her grandparents and she spent some time with them. Her impression was that they did not get on very well and that the marriage was largely arranged between the families. Apparently, Frances had had another boyfriend before their marriage who was a Liberal, and her family highly disapproved; in fact her father Richard would not let him into the house - so presumably the Hungerfords were staunch Tories!
