• Notes

  The 1911 census shows Alice had 12 children, 8 of which survived. I have found one of them: Joseph Henry born 1886, died 1890. This confirms a story that I was told about my own grandfather, also named Joseph (Bertram, born 1890) who used the birth certificate of Joseph Henry to find employment at an earlier age than he might have. Such was the pressure on getting to work to boost family income. My grandfather never knew his older brother but his eldest siblings would have.
