  DUTTON & HUDSON Warwick Brewery, Swan Street, Warwick, Warwickshire History: Warwick & Leamington Brewery Co was formed in February 1832 to establish a brewery at Wallace Street, Warwick, Warwickshire. The company was managed by Richard Hiorns from 1834, trading as Jaggard, Hiorns & Collins from 1835 and as Richard Jaggard & Richard Hiorns from 1836. Richard Jaggard became the manager in 1845, after Richard Hiorn's death, and the company then traded as Jaggard (Richard) & Jaggard (Joseph). John Hiorns, Richard Hiorns' son, joined the partnership, which became known as Jaggard, Jaggard & Hiorns. Richard Jaggard retired in 1852 and was replaced by Benjamin Russell. Joseph Jaggard retured in 1853 and his shares passed to John Rose and William Thomas Jaggard, the company trading as Hirons, Jaggard & Rose. Benjamin Russell left the partnership in 1856 and J H Marriott became the brewer. The firm faced problems with debts and the water supply during the 1850s. In 1864 the company wasliquidated and the brewery was sold to Frank Speakman Webb and Percy Barron for £4,250. The business tarded under Barron's name until it was sold in 18979 for £16,500 to Jonas Paston for Dutton & Sons, Witney, Oxfordshire. The brewery at this time had a capacity of 9,050 barrels of beer per year and operated 12 tied houses. The firm traded as Dutton & Hudson from 1888 to 1896 when it was acquired by Lucas, Blackwell & Arkwright, Leamington, Warwickshire. The Warwick Brewery ceased brewing in 1928. Records are held at Warwick County Records office, Priory Park, Cape Road, Warwick CV34 4JS The Oxford Journal 6th of August 1870 Flower Show The second show of the Witney Horticultural Society was held in the grounds of Mr Ravenor and Mr Brown on Tuesday last, and was a great success. There were four tents, one containing the cut flowers, of which the display was very fine; another the geraniums, fuchsias, balsams, petunias, ferns, foliage plants etc.; the third, the vegetables, which were exceedingly numerous, and called forth much admiration; and the 4th, the productions in the cottagers class. There was likewise a display of mangold's, swedes and turnips, which commanded much attention. One of the chief attractions of the day was undoubtedly the Band of the Grenadier Guards, which performed a popular selection of music. The following prizes were awarded: Apples, culinary - first prize J Dutton Esq. Melons, green flesh - second prize J Dutton Esq. Cut Flowers, collection - second prize J Dutton Esq.
