East Sheen - Sheen Lane c1930
This picture shows Sheen, Upper Richmond Road, looking in the direction of Richmond. This lithographic printed postcard predates the '30s buildings in Upper Richmond Road that we are familiar with nowadays. Sheen Lane is on the left going up to Richmond Park. On the right, Sheen Lane goes down to Mortlake. Notice the original Bull Pub just past the bank. The text on the sign at the very top right says 'Perrings Corner' for this is where they had their Sheen branch. There is a poster for the Sheen Kinema, newly opened in 1930 and just out of shot on the left. The poster advertises the film "A Certain Young Man" starring Ramon Novarro, which came out in 1928. There is a play being advertised at the Richmond Theatre called "Ladies Please!".
